Mining and Manufacturing
Imperial Logistics is an established supply chain and logistics leader in the manufacturing and mining sectors in both Africa and internationally.
Our international capabilities encompass the specialised manufacturing of cement, glass, paper, board, steel and metals. Our mining industry solutions are focused predominately on mining activities in Southern Africa, where Imperial Logistics provides intermodal transportation solutions for bulk commodities like chrome and magnesium into manufacturing facilities.
We offer local distribution, line haul and warehousing solutions, and are committed to customising our capabilities and investing in specialised assets and resources to drive our manufacturing industry clients’ competitiveness. Our road transportation management solutions leverage a broad variety of vehicle types and configurations, depending on the most efficient and cost effective solution for each manufacturing client. These include tautliners, flat-beds, flat-beds with cranes, skeletal trailers for containers and step-deck trailers. Specialised trailers have been developed to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of glass products, and include vehicles that are equipped with air suspension and fixed glass racking.
In our long-established partnership with a leading glass manufacturer, for example, we invested in customised vehicles to boost carrying capacity from the industry standard to an exceptional 76 pallets, to contain costs and enhance service levels for our client.
We provide cross-border solutions into Southern African Development Community (SADC) territories for many South African based manufacturers. Our warehouse management capabilities include various warehousing options, including dedicated facilities, the on-site management of clients’ own warehouses and multi-tenant warehousing.
We leverage an expansive network of warehouses that are strategically located in South Africa’s main centres and across Europe.
In the international manufacturing arena, Imperial Logistics has been specialising in steel logistics since 1991, and is today a leader in the steel market in Europe. We handle more than 12 million tonnes of steel annually in Europe, and our specialised facilities include more than 18 steel logistics sites in Germany alone.
In South America, Imperial Logistics’ major manufacturing contracts include a partnership with a prominent global steel manufacturer. Our customised solutions include transporting iron ore 2 400km down Paraná River, from central Brazil through Paraguay to a steel mill in Argentina.
Our integrated manufacturing logistics solutions enable us to provide clients with efficient logistics modules for supplying the production line and disposing of waste before, during and after the production process. We supply clients’ assembly lines punctually and reliably, either just in time or just in sequence, depending on the client’s specific needs. We can also take over responsibility for the manufactured goods, in order to supply them in line with the desired warehouse or distribution concept. In the international steel and power station sectors, Imperial Logistics specialises in the disposal of ancillary and waste products for our clients.
Our manufacturing logistics solutions are complemented by quality checks, packaging operations and even module assembly work.
In the Southern African mining sector, Imperial Logistics’ transportation management solutions are delivered by our asset based and asset-light business units, which utilise a broad range of tipper vehicle configurations. The world’s leading mining houses rely on our efficient, agile solutions to move large volumes of bulk commodities. Because of our unique, asset light model, we can deliver flexible, customised solutions that are not constrained by owned assets. This versatile, risk-mitigating approach means that we can ramp up our capacity or adapt our approach at any time to meet our mining clients’ needs. It means that we can source even the most specialised resources for our clients as and when they are required. Even in the most testing economic environments, it enables us to constantly add value to our clients’ supply chains, drive their competitiveness and influence their profitability.
Our long standing and established relationships with leading players in the mining and manufacturing markets are testament to our matchless solutions in these spheres, where many of our partnerships go back two decades.
