History of Business

CIC (Pty) Ltd was established in May 1946 in Namibia. The company began as JJ van Zyl (Pty) Limited as a sales distribution agency in Windhoek. In 1963, after nearly 20 years in business, the company’s name changed to Indo Atlantic and became the single largest grocery agency business within Namibia.

In June 1984 management affected a buyout of operations and the company became known as Commercial Investment Corporation (Pty) Ltd, which is today known as CIC (Pty) Ltd. Since then the company has gone from strength to strength: trading divisions were established and the company listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in 2007. CIC grew into a true multi‐national Southern African corporate and became part of Imperial in 2010.

CIC is a parent company to a group of businesses that operate in the SADC region. They are: Global Holdings (Botswana), Fine Pharmaceuticals (Botswana), the OTI Group (Mozambique and Swaziland), Horizon (Zambia), LSC (Namibia and Botswana) and Warpack (Malawi).
